Wiz Khalifa, the American rapper, has been sentenced to nine months in prison in Romania for smoking cannabis on stage at the Beach, Please! festival in July 2024. He was found with over 18 grams of cannabis and consumed some during his performance, which was deemed an “ostentatious act” that encouraged drug use among young people.
The Constanta Court of Appeal overturned an earlier fine of 3,600 Romanian lei ($830) after prosecutors appealed for a harsher sentence. Wiz Khalifa apologized for his actions, saying he didn’t mean to disrespect Romania and would return “without a big ass joint next time”.
However, it’s unclear if he’ll serve time, as his team is appealing the sentence and extradition is unlikely since he’s a US citizen.
