Parliament has passed the Ghana Sports Fund Bill, marking a significant milestone for sports development in Ghana. The bill aims to establish a Sports Development Fund to support athlete welfare, infrastructure development, grassroots programs, and talent identification nationwide. Sports Minister Kofi Adams described the passage as a defining moment for Ghanaian sports, highlighting the bipartisan commitment to transforming the country’s sporting fortunes.
The fund is expected to mobilize significant financial resources annually through dedicated revenue streams, donations, and parliamentary appropriations. An independent governing board will oversee its management, ensuring clear accountability and alignment with the forthcoming National Sports Policy.
This development reflects the Mahama administration’s vision to reposition sports as a strategic tool for national development, prioritizing long-term institutional, legal, and financial reforms.
