The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) is urging the Finance Minister to release outstanding allowances for Assembly Members. Only two months’ worth of allowances, covering April and May, have been paid, leaving a substantial balance for six months up to November.
Key Issues:
– Outstanding Allowances: GH¢100 million was allocated in the 2025 national budget for Assembly Members’ monthly allowances, but only two months have been disbursed.
– Financial Strain: The delay is causing significant financial strain on Assembly Members, who continue to serve their communities with dedication despite minimal logistical support.
– Motorbikes: NALAG is also lobbying for the procurement and distribution of motorbikes to enhance mobility and operational efficiency.
NALAG President Alfred Asiedu Adjei has appealed to the Finance Minister to release the remaining funds, emphasizing that timely payment is crucial for sustaining Ghana’s decentralization agenda and motivating Assembly Members.
