The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) recently honored former President John Dramani Mahama with a special award for his unwavering support for Ghana’s creative industries, particularly the music sector. This recognition was presented during MUSIGA’s Golden Jubilee Soiree at the Labadi Beach Hotel, acknowledging President Mahama’s visionary leadership in establishing the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
The award citation praised President Mahama for recognizing the importance of people in Ghana’s music industry and his advocacy for aging and struggling musicians. His efforts have brought dignity and comfort to pioneers of Ghanaian music. Deputy Chief of Staff, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, accepted the award on his behalf, assuring the creative industries of robust governmental support to foster thriving careers.
Other notable awardees included veteran ethnomusicology Professor Edmond John Collins, former MUSIGA Presidents Agya Koo Nimo, Alhaji Sidiku Buari, Diana Hopeson, and Bice (Obour) Osei Kuffour. The event also featured captivating performances by Obrafour, Pat Thomas, Smart Nkansah, Adane Best, and Asabea Cropper.
