Morocco is taking legal action against Senegal after the chaotic Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation announced it will pursue legal action with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA over Senegal’s walk-off protest during the final. The protest occurred when Morocco was awarded a penalty in the 98th minute, prompting Senegal’s coach, Pape Thiaw, to lead his players off the pitch.
The Moroccan federation claims the walk-off significantly impacted the match’s outcome and their players’ performance. FIFA President Gianni Infantino condemned Senegal’s behavior, stating that violence and walk-offs have no place in football.
CAF has condemned Senegal’s actions, reviewing footage and preparing disciplinary proceedings. Senegal might face sanctions, including potential suspensions for key players and coach Pape Thiaw.
