The Abuakwa South Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Adu Sarpong Addo-Aikins, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to environmental protection and combating illegal mining activities (galamsey) in the country. He emphasized that the government is strengthening enforcement, reviewing mining policies, and promoting sustainable mining practices, with the success of the fight depending on cooperation from traditional leaders, opinion leaders, educational institutions, and the youth.
The MCE has taken a tough stance against galamsey, targeting not only miners but also their financiers, and has established an anti-galamsey task force to combat the issue. He warned that anyone caught engaging in galamsey, regardless of political affiliation, will face the full force of the law.
