The Ghanaian government is set to introduce the National Occupational Safety and Health Bill to Parliament, aiming to strengthen workplace protections and align with international best practices.
This long-awaited bill has been in the works for over 30 years and is expected to enhance labour standards, protect workers, and prevent occupational accidents and injuries.
The bill will cover compliance registration, certification processes, penalties, and administrative fines for non-compliance, as well as training and safety audit fees.
It will also require employers to establish health and safety committees and implement measures to prevent exposure to hazards. Minister of Labour, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, assured that the bill will be worked on with “alacrity” to improve workplace safety and strengthen social protection coverage for all workers.
