The Sports Ministry has set up a high-level committee to oversee Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following the Black Stars’ successful qualification. The committee, chaired by Sports Minister Kofi Adams, includes senior representatives from various government ministries and agencies, the Ghana Football Association, and private sector stakeholders.
Committee’s Objectives:
– Ensure comprehensive national participation and improve the team’s performance
– Leverage the World Cup for cultural, economic, and diplomatic benefits
– Showcase Ghana’s tourism and investment potential
– Strengthen international relations and direct sports investments into the country
Key Responsibilities:
– Develop a “Roadmap to the World Cup” document
– Fundraising and sponsorship drives
– Organize training camps and international friendlies
– Media and public awareness campaigns
– Coordinate trade, investment, and tourism initiatives
The committee will operate until three months after the World Cup, with a possible extension of 30 working days. Its expected deliverables include a comprehensive World Cup roadmap, minutes and activity reports, and a final report to Cabinet.
