All is set for the maiden edition of the Eric Yeboah Wadie (EYW) Impact Football Gala, which kicks off on Thursday, September 25, and runs through Monday, September 29, 2025, at the Methodist AstroTurf in Betom, Koforidua, in the Eastern Region.
Hosted and fully funded by EYW Impact, the 5-day community-centered football event is the brainchild of Eric Yeboah Wadie, Deputy Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).
His passion for youth empowerment and community development is the driving force behind this initiative.
The tournament brings together nine dynamic teams representing various communities across the Eastern Region, including Oguaa, Betom, Anlo Town, Srodae, Zongo, Nsukwao, Bonya, and Trom. More than just a sporting competition, the gala aims to promote unity, discipline, youth engagement, and the nurturing of grassroots football talent.
Attractive prizes await the winners, along with a range of consolation packages for all participating teams—celebrating not only excellence but also participation and sportsmanship.
“This tournament is not just about football; it’s about hope, empowerment, and building community spirit. We’re using sports as a tool to create impact, inspire the youth, and offer them opportunities for growth,” said Mr. Wadie.
He further encouraged families, football enthusiasts, and community members to come out and support the event:
“We invite everyone to join us in this thrilling celebration of talent and unity. Whether you’re on the pitch or cheering from the sidelines, no one will leave empty-handed—there’s something in it for everyone.”
