Terence Crawford has been stripped of his WBC super-middleweight title due to unpaid sanctioning fees. The World Boxing Council (WBC) announced that Crawford failed to pay the required fees for his fights against Canelo Alvarez and Israil Madrimov, despite multiple communications and a reduced fee of 0.6% of his $50 million purse from the Canelo fight.
The WBC has ordered a fight between interim champion Christian Mbilli and Hamzah Sheeraz for the vacant title, with Lester Martinez as the mandatory challenger. Crawford, who became the undisputed super-middleweight champion after defeating Canelo Alvarez in September, still holds the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles.
