MultiChoice Nigeria is sounding the alarm on digital piracy, revealing that Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 10 was illegally streamed over 5 million times. Atinuke Babatunde, Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa, described this as “economic sabotage” and a major threat to Nigeria’s creative industry.
Speaking at the 2025 Nigerian Entertainment Conference, Babatunde emphasized the need for modern copyright laws, enforcement frameworks, and cross-border protections to safeguard creative content. She highlighted the importance of the creative sector to Nigeria’s economy, stating, “When creativity rises, the entire economy rises”.
MultiChoice has been leading anti-piracy awareness walks across major cities to educate the public on the dangers of illegal streaming and content theft. The company is urging stakeholders to unite in protecting Africa’s creative output, with Babatunde adding, “This is our moment not to dream but to build, not to respond but to lead”.
