Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been confirmed as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, securing 110,643 votes (56.48%) in the party’s presidential primaries. His closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, obtained 46,554 votes (23.76%), while Dr. Bryan Acheampong followed with 36,303 votes (18.53%).
Bawumia’s victory marks a decisive win, crossing the 50% threshold required to avoid a run-off. He won 232 out of 276 constituencies nationwide, demonstrating broad support across the country.
The Minority Caucus in Parliament has congratulated Bawumia, pledging full support for the 2028 elections. Bawumia has thanked delegates and called for party unity, emphasizing a unifying and inclusive campaign.
