Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has pledged to support the creation of a new constituency out of Chiana/Paga in the Upper East Region, citing the demand as “legitimate and long overdue”. He made this promise during the 10th anniversary celebration of the Sirigu Naba’s enskinment, emphasizing that the current constituency is too large for effective representation. Ayariga assured the people of his commitment to fighting for this cause, stating “I sympathise with you, I agree with you, I support you, and I will join you to fight for that cause”.
The Chiana/Paga constituency has a registered voter population of 54,916, making it challenging for the current MP to effectively serve the people. The Paramount Chief of Sirigu and the MP for Chiana/Paga, Nikyema Billa Alamzy, have also expressed concerns about the vast size of the constituency, highlighting the need for a separate constituency to ensure proper representation and address development demands.
