Nana Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s former President, has reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law. He made this statement while addressing concerns about his alleged intention to seek safe passage for his cousin, Ken Ofori-Atta, who is facing charges.
Akufo-Addo emphasized that his dedication to democratic tenets and the rule of law remains unwavering, stating, “As a firm believer in democratic tenets, Nana Akufo-Addo’s fidelity to the Rule of Law has never been in question”.
He acknowledged his concern for Ofori-Atta’s situation but stressed that this concern doesn’t extend to interfering with the rule of law. Akufo-Addo has urged Ofori-Atta to return to Ghana and face the allegations against him.
This statement comes as Ghana prepares for a new leadership era, with Akufo-Addo’s term ending soon. His commitment to democracy and the rule of law has earned him recognition, including the Great Africa Democracy Award.
