Hamamat Montia, a renowned Ghanaian model, entrepreneur, and cultural advocate, has been appointed as Ghana’s first Shea Butter Ambassador by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts. This pioneering role aims to elevate shea butter as a symbol of national identity, economic value, and cultural heritage.
As ambassador, Montia will advocate for sustainable harvesting practices, expand public education on shea’s heritage importance, and strengthen Ghana’s presence in international markets. She’s the founder of the Shea Butter Museum in Accra, which celebrates the history, production, and cultural significance of shea butter.
The appointment recognizes Montia’s dedication to promoting Ghanaian culture and empowering women in the shea industry. She’s a seventh-generation custodian of shea butter heritage and has worked tirelessly to reposition shea butter as a valuable cultural and economic asset.
