Ghana’s Parliament has passed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025, paving the way for the establishment of a coordinating body to drive the government’s economic transformation agenda. The Authority will oversee the implementation of the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, focusing on production systems development, supply chain management, and labor development.
The bill’s passage is seen as a fulfillment of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) campaign promise to create jobs and stimulate economic growth. Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga emphasized that the Authority will serve as a secretariat, liaising with ministries, departments, and agencies to enhance production systems and supply chains.
However, some MPs, including Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, expressed concerns about potential duplication of functions with existing institutions like the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA). They also questioned the lack of clarity on implementation details and funding mechanisms.
