The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has welcomed the government’s decision to rename Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport. The party believes this move will help reclaim Ghana’s national symbols and reflect the country’s values and heritage. Osei Kofi Acquah, the CPP’s Communications Director, commended President John Dramani Mahama’s efforts in safeguarding Ghana’s democracy.
The renaming is also seen as a way to recognize the people of Accra who gave up their land for the airport’s construction. Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga stated that the proposed change aims to restore the airport’s original name, promoting national unity and identity.
Some notable figures supporting the renaming include Samia Yaba Christina Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, who has long advocated for the airport to revert to its original name.
