The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is targeting faith-based tourists with Christian concerts, aiming to diversify the country’s tourism offerings beyond traditional attractions like beaches, wildlife, and cultural festivals. The initiative, announced by GTA Deputy CEO Abeiku Santana Aggrey, seeks to promote Ghana as a key destination for Christian tourists globally.
The Awake Experience, headlined by award-winning gospel singer Diana Hamilton, serves as the pilot for this new initiative. Aggrey commended Hamilton, saying she’s “changing the narrative of tourism by defining how religious-based tourism should be sold”.
The GTA plans to collaborate with churches, event promoters, and faith organizations to create a year-long calendar of religious experiences, including gospel concerts, spiritual retreats, and Christian conferences. This move is expected to attract thousands of visitors, boosting the economy and arts sector.
