Heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a car crash in Nigeria, leaving two people dead and Joshua himself injured. The accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State, Nigeria, when the Lexus SUV Joshua was traveling in collided with a stationary truck. Joshua, 36, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The two people who lost their lives were identified as Sina Ghami, Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, and Latif Ayodele, his personal trainer.
The cause of the accident is believed to be a burst tire due to excessive speed, which caused the driver to lose control and crash into the stationary truck. Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirmed that Joshua is stable and receiving medical attention.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to Joshua and the families of the victims, wishing Joshua a speedy recovery. Joshua’s rival, Jake Paul, also sent his prayers and condolences, saying “Life is much more important than boxing”.
