The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to Ghana’s constitutional two-term presidential limit. This means they won’t support any attempt to amend the constitution to allow a president to serve more than two terms.
NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, emphasized that this decision is aimed at preventing the abuse of executive power and safeguarding national stability. He urged Ghanaians to disregard rumors of a possible constitutional amendment, stating that the party’s focus remains on governance reforms, economic recovery, national unity, and strengthening democratic institutions.
President John Dramani Mahama has also confirmed he won’t run in 2028, citing his commitment to the two-term limit. This decision allows him to enforce fiscal discipline effectively.
The NDC’s stance is seen as a move to protect the country’s democratic gains and prevent unnecessary tension. Justice Dzamefe, a Supreme Court nominee, has also voiced support for the two-term limit, emphasizing the importance of constitutional fidelity.
