Adwoa Safo, former MP for Dome-Kwabenya, has defended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, saying it’s unfair to blame him solely for the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections. She questioned why Bawumia is being targeted when he wasn’t the Finance Minister at the time, implying that Ken Ofori-Atta, the former Finance Minister, should take responsibility.
Adwoa Safo emphasized that Bawumia’s contributions to Ghana’s digital transformation shouldn’t be overlooked. She also criticized the NPP’s election review committee, led by Prof. Mike Oquaye, calling it “bogus” and lacking credibility.
In an interview, Adwoa Safo expressed her disappointment with how she was treated by the party, including being demoted in Parliament. She believes the party misunderstood her stance on certain issues, leading to her loss in the primaries.
Overall, Adwoa Safo’s comments highlight internal divisions within the NPP and a desire to shift focus away from blaming individual leaders for the party’s electoral setbacks.
