Veteran Ghanaian gospel artiste Stella Aba Seal is speaking out against young gospel musicians using her songs without permission, calling it “painful and discouraging”. She notes that some artists don’t even ask for permission, while others record and inform her only when they’re about to release the song.
Stella Seal emphasizes that this lack of respect reflects a broader issue in Ghanaian society, where honoring pioneers isn’t deeply rooted in the culture. She’s particularly disappointed that this happens in the music industry, unlike in sports where veterans receive public recognition.
The gospel singer warns that actions have consequences, citing spiritual laws and karma. She praises Nigeria’s culture of respect, where young artists visit legends with gifts and receive blessings, and notes that Ghana’s Nana Ama McBrown is one of the few replicating this.
