The National Sports Authority (NSA) is rolling out new pitch covers to protect the Accra Stadium ahead of packed December events. The covers, expected to arrive on December 6, will be used to safeguard the stadium’s pitch during concerts and other non-sporting events.
The NSA Director-General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, emphasized that the initiative aims to break the “cycle of damage and repair” that has plagued the stadium in the past. The new covers come in various grades, with some capable of withstanding trucks and large crowds.
The Accra Stadium is hosting several major events in December, including Medikal’s Beyond Control Concert, GTCO Concert, Bhim Nation Concert, and watch-night services. The NSA has also improved coordination with event organizers and is acquiring maintenance equipment to ensure the stadium remains in excellent condition.
This move is part of the NSA’s efforts to balance sporting and non-sporting activities while maintaining the stadium’s sustainability.
