The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has launched a groundbreaking insurance scheme to transform referee welfare, covering 280 referees in the Premier League, Division One League, and Women’s Premier League. The package includes:
– Group Life Insurance
– Critical Illness Cover
– Permanent Disability Support
– Medical Expense Coverage
– Workmen’s Compensation
– Funeral Support
The scheme also extends to referees’ families, covering spouses, children, and parents. As part of the initiative, each referee will receive two pairs of boots per season, three sets of uniforms, and three warm-up kits. They’ll also enjoy a 50% travel discount through the GFA’s partnership with STC Coaches.
GFA President Kurt Okraku emphasized that this move demonstrates the association’s commitment to safeguarding referees and their families. The launch marks a significant milestone in Ghanaian football, highlighting the crucial role referees play in maintaining the sport’s integrity.
