Ghana Rugby stole the spotlight at the inaugural UK/Ghana Sports Day in Accra, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship. The event, held at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 25, 2025, featured over 20 sporting disciplines and drew hundreds of spectators, athletes, and officials.
Ghana Rugby’s Impressive Performance
The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) fielded five teams, including two women’s sides and three men’s teams, demonstrating the sport’s growing popularity in the country. The women’s teams opened with two exciting exhibition matches, earning applause for their discipline and teamwork. The men’s teams followed with six competitive games, showcasing their technical improvement and intensity.
Royal Presence and Institutional Support
The event was graught by His Royal Highness Prince Edward, The Duke of Edinburgh, who interacted with the players and officials, highlighting the unifying power of sports. Senior government officials, including Youth and Sports Minister Kofi Adams and National Sports Authority Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, attended the event, underscoring the government’s support for sports development.

GRFU President Ms. Rafatu Inusah expressed gratitude to the British High Commission and the National Sports Authority for creating a platform for lesser-highlighted sports to shine.
