Mikel Arteta has confirmed a major injury blow for Arsenal ahead of their Premier League derby against Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday. Gabriel Magalhaes, the Gunners’ centre-back, has been ruled out for several weeks due to a groin injury sustained while playing for Brazil against Senegal. Arteta described it as a “big blow” and will need another scan next Wednesday to determine the full extent of the injury.
Possible replacements for Gabriel include Piero Hincapie, Cristhian Mosquera, or Riccardo Calafiori, although Calafiori has also been experiencing some issues and hasn’t trained with the squad yet. The Gunners will also be without Gabriel for their Champions League match against Bayern Munich and the Premier League clash with Chelsea.
On a more positive note, there’s hope that attacking players like Martin Odegaard, Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Martinelli, and Noni Madueke could recover in time to play a part in Sunday’s match. We’ll have to wait until matchday to find out.
