The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has called for Parliament to investigate the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) and the categorization of senior high schools (SHS) by the Ghana Education Service (GES). He believes the system is flawed, leading to chaos and frustration for parents and guardians seeking admissions for their children.
Ayariga questions why some schools are considered “good” while others are deemed “bad,” and wants to know the rationale behind the categorization of SHS into Categories A, B, and C. He argues that this system perpetuates inequality in access to quality secondary education.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, supports the probe, highlighting concerns about the unequal distribution of experienced teachers, with Category A schools attracting the best talent. The proposed investigation aims to address these issues and propose reforms.
