Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has kicked off his Central Regional tour, marking a critical phase in his “Our Journey Together” campaign as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up for its 2028 flagbearer primary. The tour, which began in Awutu Senya East Constituency, will take him to all 23 constituencies in the region, with stops in Gomoa East, Awutu Senya West, and Effutu later today.
The Central Region is a crucial battleground, being the home region of one of Bawumia’s strongest contenders, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former MP for Assin Central. According to a Global InfoAnalytics poll, Bawumia leads in the region with 57% support, while Agyapong trails with 32%.
Bawumia’s campaign aims to consolidate his lead by strengthening relationships with delegates, grassroots leaders, and opinion shapers, while reinforcing his message of party renewal, unity, and forward-looking leadership ahead of the January 31, 2026, primary.
