2Baba’s iconic hit song “African Queen” has been a double-edged sword for him. On one hand, it’s catapulted him to international stardom, earning him numerous awards, including BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO honors, making him the first African artist to achieve this feat. The song, released in 2004 as part of his debut solo album “Face 2 Face”, solidified his position as one of Africa’s most celebrated music icons.
However, “African Queen” has also brought controversy, with his former Plantashun Boiz bandmate, Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo (Blackface), accusing him of song theft. 2Baba has consistently denied these allegations, stating it was a collaborative effort from their band days.
Despite the challenges, 2Baba remains grateful for the song’s impact on his career, acknowledging it has opened doors for him. He’s also highlighted that he’s created many other notable works beyond “African Queen”, saying, “There are so many other songs I have that are brilliant, and many people resonate with them too”.
